Strategies for Shaping New Business Markets: Going Beyond Traditional and Geographic Markets

This three-day workshop is for any person or organization that wants to start something new based on market-based principles – whether it be a social or profit-based enterprise. It focuses on creating markets out of the “white” space and connecting them to advantageous structures in the “black” space to shape them into unique competitive spaces – anchors for sustainability.

The workshop is undergirded by the VenturePath™ methodology developed by Conceptualee, but also leverages other methodologies like the Blue Ocean Strategy™. It is perfect for people leading the effort to develop markets for start-ups or existing organizations, from micro to large. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a blueprint for quickening their own strategy formulation efforts – something they can start with the next day.

During the workshop, participants will focus on the following objectives:

  • Describe the VenturePath™ methodology.
  • Discover new market opportunities.
  • Shape strategy using VenturePath™, and other relevant, tools.
  • Develop a business model according to VenturePath™ methodology.
  • Draft a customized blueprint for new market strategy formulation.

The following is a unit objective outline of the workshop:

Introduction: VenturePath™ (1 Hour)

  1. Contextualize the factors, issues, and drivers for business execution today.
  2. Describe a general business execution process.
  3. Define VenturePath™ and describe the space it occupies in the business execution space.
  4. Describe the principles, methodology, process, and outcomes of VenturePath™.

Discover New Market Opportunities through New Lenses (4 Hours)

  1. Describe the Leverage Point Strategy™ principles, framework, and methodology.
  2. Describe the Blue Ocean Strategy™ principles, framework, and methodology.
  3. Describe the Kaleidoscope Strategy™ principles, framework, and methodology.
  4. Brainstorm to identify new market opportunities based on new lenses in groups, then organize an Opportunity Lens Map.

Shape Strategy Using Leverage Point Strategy™ (3 Hours)

  1. Walk through Leverage Point Strategy™ tools used to shape strategy, using an example.
  2. Compare visual maps to denote different frameworks constructed and develop a list of additional check points for discovering new market opportunities.
  3. Shape strategy with Leverage Point Strategy™ tools, using a case study.
  4. Apply new framework to own scenario.

Shape Strategy Using Blue Ocean Strategy™ (4 Hours)

  1. Walk through Blue Ocean Strategy™ tools used to shape strategy, using an example.
  2. Compare visual maps to denote different frameworks constructed and develop a list of additional check points for discovering new market opportunities.
  3. Shape strategy with Blue Ocean Strategy™ tools, using a case study.
  4. Apply new framework to own scenario.

Shape Strategy Using Kaleidoscope Strategy™ (2 Hours)

  1. Walk through using Kaleidoscope Strategy ™ tools used to shape strategy, using an example.
  2. Compare visual maps to denote different frameworks constructed and develop a list of additional check points for discovering new market opportunities.
  3. Shape strategy with Kaleidoscope Strategy ™ tools, using a case study.
  4. Apply new framework to own scenario.

Weave a VenturePath™ Strategy Map (2 Hours)

  1. Describe a VenturePath strategy map.
  2. Develop a VenturePath strategy map, using data from previous strategy formulation exercises.
  3. Develop a sample VenturePath™ strategy map for your own scenario.

Apply a General Business Model Framework (3 Hours)

  1. Define and describe business model concepts.
  2. Walkthrough a generic business model process.
  3. Apply business model generation techniques.

Construct a Business Model Using the VenturePath™ Frame (2 Hours)

  1. Review inputs needed for business model, using the VenturePath™ frame.
  2. Construct a business model, using case study.
  3. Draft a business model for your own scenario.

Customize VenturePath™ Strategy Formulation Methodology (3 Hours)

  1. Review key points, methodology, and tools from workshop.
  2. Draft customized blueprint for new market strategy formulation based on VenturePath™ methodology.
